American Folk Music is as old as our country , as diverse as our population,  and as important to our culture as Mom, baseball, and apple pie.

It has grown from the musical gifts of our earliest settlers and will continue to evolve as long as there are people  to give breath and substance to it.

It is music of the people, by the people, and for the people. It is at once humble and grand, and it touches the lives of each of us.

It records history and our feelings, and is as vital to our society as any textbook, social movement, or art form.

It is performed regularly in living rooms and at Lincoln Center,  is a casual pasttime for some, a means of earning a living for others, and always a joy.
